Welcome! My name is Elizabeth Verkuilen and I am currently a Course Certificate Senior at Ronald Reagan High School. For as long as I can remember, I've been fascinated by the visual arts and look forward to experimenting with various projects and mediums for the next few years. While I am currently undecided with what I would like to do with my future, art is the one constant class that I never tire of, so perhaps finding a career related to art would be in my best interest. To me, art is a universal language that can be interpreted in numerous ways; I am continuously fascinated with the artists that we study who are anywhere from being located in a neighboring state to being located halfway across the globe. I love that no one in the art community is "bizarre" or an "outcast" and gravitate towards creating either colorful pieces or artwork that has a weird, slightly "off" vibe.
During my senior year, I plan on creating more thematic pieces, whether they involve personal struggles or issues/topics that may be experienced by my peers. Not only does this help me to come out of my shell as an artist and person, I hope that creating more serious works will perhaps help someone who is either going through the same issue or knows someone who is. I also hope to experiment by combining the seriousness of these messages with my preference for the weird and colorful - while they're not things that typically go together, creating atypical pieces can draw more attention to the message, especially with the use of imagery that may not be considered traditional. |
